Friends, Families and Employees

I hope everyone is in good health and spirits. I need to take a moment of your time to provide you with the direction that the Fogarty Center is heading in 2016.

The Fogarty Center was incorporated in 1952 as a non-profit agency to provide day services to adults with developmental disabilities. Since its incorporation, the Fogarty Center has grown in its size and scope of services. An area of expanded growth as you know was child care services provided at Alphabet Soup (Picillo Center) and Pawtucket Daycare. We have been extremely proud of both of these programs.

Over the last number of years, the Fogarty Center has seen a significant decrease in funding and an increase in expenses. Not a good recipe for financial success. Having made many ineffective attempts at addressing these funding deficits, we now find ourselves at a crossroad that threatens the existence of the Fogarty Center and its original mission to provide services to adults with developmental disabilities.

On March 1, 2016 the Fogarty Center sold the Pawtucket Daycare building and sought the management services of Dr. Daycare. Dr. Daycare is now the provider of child care services and the Fogarty Center is no longer involved at the Pawtucket location.

Similarly on July 5, 2016, Dr. Daycare will be assuming and providing daycare services at the current Alphabet Soup site. The Fogarty Center will maintain its ownership of the Picillo Building and has entered into a 10 year lease arrangement with Dr. Daycare. Dr. Daycare will be providing technical oversight over the next couple of months, meeting with families and employees.

It is unfortunate that the Fogarty Center needed to take this course of action and empathizes with all persons affected. Under these circumstances however this is a win-win scenario. Dr. Daycare has a wonderful reputation for providing quality services to children and their families. The recent transition experience from Pawtucket Day Care was extremely smooth, with only one employee not being offered a position.

The Fogarty Center continues to work closely with Dr. Daycare on the Pawtucket site to ensure the continuity of quality services and will continue this same effort at Alphabet Soup. Over the next several weeks, families and employees will have opportunities to meet with representatives from Dr. Daycare and the Fogarty Center to ensure a smooth transition for all.

Please feel free to contact me at (401) 353-7000 or Thank you for your time and understanding.

Congratulations to the 2015 BlumShapiro Softball Showdown for Best Buddies RI Champions, The Fogarty Center!!!

Last Saturday, 12 teams from across Rhode Island joined to play in this fun and exciting tournament. After a morning of pool play games NBC10 and The Fogarty Center moved on to the finals at Randy Hien Field in Lincoln, RI. It was a great game but The Fogarty Center walked away with the Champions Cup!

Thank you to all of the players, umpires, volunteers, and vendors that made this event possible. A special thank you goes to the Town of Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department for providing their amazing facilities for this event. Thank you to our Title Sponsor, BlumShapiro. Co-Chairs and BlumShapiro employees, Dawn Arpin and Jennifer Hogencamp gave their all to make this event such a success. We couldn't have done it without you!!
